The study was based on interviews with representatives of more than 12,000 U.S. businesses that spend between $500 and $50,000 each month on electricity.

Interviews focused on 52 utilities that serve more than 50,000 business accounts—representative of nearly 11 million business customers in the United States.

Duke Power has more than 200,000 small and mid-size business customers in the Carolinas. Approximately 300 of them were surveyed for the J.D. Power and Associates study.

“We're honored to be ranked as the nation’s highest for delivering the desired customer experience to small and mid-size business customers, and we’re pleased that our services are providing real value to our customers,” said Sandra Meyer, Duke Power's group vice president of customer service, sales and marketing.

“Today’s announcement validates our pledge to customers to do it right the first time, take ownership and follow through. I'm so proud of our customer service employees, line technicians, business account managers and other teammates who have worked tirelessly to provide our customers with superior customer service,” Meyer said.

Six factors comprised overall customer satisfaction in the study: power quality and reliability, customer service, company image, billing and payment, price and communications.
